Kodak Carousel Slide Orientation
This applies to Kodak or Kodak
compatible carousels only.
For all other Carousels or slide
trays, you must remove the slides and put them
in stacks that can be held in one hand. (See
instructions.)

Look
at the tops of your slides. The fronts should be
facing "counter clockwise" when viewed from the
top of the carousel. You can tell the front of
the slide because it usually has the company
logo or name of the film on it.
The backs of the slides look like this when viewed from the top. The backs will be identified as different from the fronts because they will be fairly blank and having maybe some faint numbers on them and possibly dates actually stamped into the slide holder. Some slides will even have "View From This Side" stamped on them. This is the back side.

Here is another view of the back sides of properly oriented slides. You can see the "Made in USA" text at the top of the slide. If all your slides were the same, like these, you can check the orientation just by looking at the tops. You will most likely NOT be this lucky.

All slides should be placed in the carousel with the rectangular film part of the slide oriented with the film going widthwise.
Don't worry. We will turn the final image so that it views correctly on your computer or TV screen.

Do NOT have the slides turned with the film oriented "Up" as the slide to the right.

Lots of people choose to just send the carousels
because it saves a lot of trouble.
You can even tell the "portrait" slides that need to be
rotated to "landscape" by holding the carousel at an angle.
No need to take every slide out.

Look at the white box that shows the
scanning area over the slide below.
This is the kind of scan
you are going to get if you do NOT
rotate the portrait slide so that
it is oriented the same as the landscape
slide.
