Is Your DVD Player Compatible With
Old Photo's VCD2 Slide Show Disks?
Why would a person want the VCD2 format slide show instead of the regular DVD disk slide show? Some people like the ability to play the high resolution slide show on their computer and only have a CD player. They also like the versatility of being able to take the CD / VCD2 disk to anyone's house or office and knowing that it will play on their PC computer. The images are also stored on the disk so that you can pull them off onto any computer. The disk will also play at DVD quality on most DVD players. Most DVD players manufactured in the last three years will be compatible with this slide show format.
We also have the option of making a DVD slide show on a DVD disk, if that is what you want.
The Digital Slide Show is created on a regular CD disk in VCD2 format. This provides very high quality images on your TV and gives you the ability to copy the disk and share it with friends and relatives as long as you have a CD writer in your computer. Most DVD players manufactured in the last two years have no problem playing the VCD format. DVD players that can play this format are very inexpensive. We looked at one that sells for only $40 at a local Electronics store. Apex is one manufacturer that makes inexpensive players that do very well with the VCD format. There are, however, some DVD players that are still being manufactured that cannot play the VCD format or they say they can but they really can't.
Contact us via email or telephone for a FREE Demo Disk to test your DVD player for compatibility. You can also take advantage of our FREE ten scans of your 35mm slides or photos which will be put on a Slide Show disk.
If your player is not compatible, we can still make
you a slide show on a regular DVD-R disk. It will have everything
except the PC Slide show that will play on a CD player on it.
Why do we use the VCD2
format?
Old-Photo uses JPEG stills for the slide shows
and we use the VCD 2.0 CDR
720x480 format for the image display. This
will, of course, give noticeably crisper images
in the slide shows. These images will show on
your large-screen TV and still be sharp and
clear whereas VCDs at 352x240 or even
SVCDs at 480x480 will be noticeably blurry. DVD
format also has the same resolution as VCD 2.0:
720x480. VHS Tape resolution is approximately
320x240 pixels, just for comparison
|
Image Quality Comparisons |
|
| VCD 2.0 | 720x480 |
| DVD | 720x480 |
| SVCD | 480x480 |
| VCD | 352x240 |
| VHS Tapes | 320x240 |
The VCD2 high resolution format will account for
the nice sharp images that Old-Photo will
provide for you when compared to do-it-yourself
programs that you may try to use. We like the
cute transitions of the mpeg movies but would
never want to give up the higher resolution
images. There is a very beautiful difference. We
want to see the pictures not the transitions. We
think you do too.
Also, the ability to view the slide shows on a PC and the storage of digital images are a definite plus since everyone who has one of your disks will have the original images and the ability to print out copies at any time in the future.
