4000 ppi High Resolution Slide Scanning
If any of your slides or photos are blurry, dark, light, faded or any other condition other than normal, we can help them with a little of our "computer magic" but we have to charge extra for miracles. We hope that you will be understanding when you don't see the photo that was taken 40+ years ago made to look like it was taken yesterday.
All your photos that were dark, we have tried to lighten. All your photos that were faded, we have tried to pump some color into them. We are trying to give the customer "pleasing color." We don't know if little Billy has blond hair or brown hair. If the face looks pleasantly flesh tone, and there is a little weight to the colors, we are happy. Sometimes we will be happy if there is any color at all. Sometimes a photo may be so faded or reddish yellow, that we may just change it to a black and white or sepia-tone because it will at least look like an old photograph rather than something horrible. Each photo has been individually viewed and color corrected as much as is possible without charging for major restoration work. If you think some of your images look bad, take a look at what we had to start with. We have gone well beyond any other scanning company that would charge you many times more what we do and we charge you nothing extra for this added service. What we have provided you is the most accurate transfer from 35mm slides to digital format that you are going to find anywhere close to our price range. We deal continually with two professional photographers who send us jobs and they love our work. They understand that they are getting a lot of service for a pretty low price. Since judging color is a subjective decision, our Scanning and Photoshop experts will have to be the judge as to what the final results will be as they weigh all considerations and you have signed off on this on your order form. Any request for changes will result in added charges for scanning, Photoshop work, file management and a $20 per disk recompiling fee. It is much harder for us to go back to your stacks of slides, find the one in question, scan it, put it back in your stack, work it in PS, and then save it over the image in question, than it is to just scan everything in batches.
All your photos that were blurry, we have tried to help but there in not much that can be done with a blurry slide. We are amazed at all the blurry slides that we see every day. If your slide was bent or the film was warped or curved and not perfectly flat, many slides are like this, part of the image may be blurry because of that. We try to get the main subject in focus as much as possible.
Any dirt or dust on any image is regrettable and we certainly do not like it but it is virtually impossible to eliminate the dust that is already on your slide. The dust doesn't come from our equipment, it is already on the slide when we get it. We dislike the dust and dirt as much as you do because it makes us look bad. We do not offer to clean slides before scanning because, many times, the slides are made worse by cleaning attempts and, because of the slide holder being in the way, it is virtually impossible to get the film clean. You just move the dust around. If you wanted drum scanning for $25-$35 a scan, they take the film out of the slide holder and then clean the film. You just are not going to get $25 service for 50 cents.
If the pictures in your slide show do not appear to be in the order that you wanted, unfortunately, the slides may have been accidentally shuffled during handling or rubber bands may have broke in shipping. Even a small handful of slides can be tricky sometimes, especially plastic ones. If you did not number your slides, we have no way of putting them back into the correct order. We also are not going to be able to guarantee that every image will match up with the number on the back of each picture or slide. This would require looking at each picture, once again, and checking it to the image on the computer and comparing names and numbers. Even at $.50 per scan, this would be more than could be expected. Just too labor intensive for our low prices. The scanning is semi-automated and, if a slide is bent or defective, it may not feed correctly and will be skipped. (This does not happen often but it does happen and so we only charge for the actual scans that we do.) This would throw off the batch renaming of the images. The purpose of your numbering should be to keep the photos in proper order, not to ID them.
If you see images that appear to be "flopped" it is because you did not orient your slides properly for scanning per specific directions on our web page. We try to fix the obvious problems of type reading wrong but sometimes we don't catch everything. We don't charge anything extra for attempting to fix the problems we can tell are problems. All through our processing we are working on your project as though it were our project.
If your scans appear light or dark, it may all depend upon what monitor or DVD player or TV you are viewing them on. Seems like each device has different settings or adjustments. What looks dark on one TV will look beautiful on another. We try to get a balance with the scans when viewing on our color calibrated CRT monitors, trying to get in the middle, so that the slide shows will look good on the majority of TVs or Monitors. LCD screens will make images appear darker and grainier than most CRT screens. No fixed pixel technology can reproduce the whole video dynamic range as smoothly as a CRT with its truly black blacks.
